Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sleep disruption at 9 mo

My LO is 9 months and has never really liked sleeping in his crib. He stopped night wakings for food at about 5 mos and started consistently sleeping through the night at about 7. He would normally cry himself to sleep for a few minutes and sleep about 11 hours. In this last week, he has really developed some issues. As soon as we put him in his crib after his usual bottle and story he immediately stands up and starts screaming. It's heartbreaking. He will fall asleep in about 20 min but consistently wakes up bw 23. We tried tuned check ins but the only thing that would help him go back to sleep is a bottle. He eats and drinks plenty during the day here and at daycare. Could it be a growth spurt? Separation anxiety? I hate giving in and giving him a bottle but I can't listen to him cry. It's awful. Anyone have any suggestions? He wakes up happy as can be no matter what in the morning but it's exhausting for us.

  • Yes, all of those... Could be he has some new developments he wants to try. Like standing. I would also add possibly teething.

  • Hmm, interesting post. I just posted on my BMB about DD's crazy sleep. She's been fighting sleep like crazy for about 3 weeks now. Doesn't matter if I do early or late bedtime, rock or nurse to sleep or put her down awake. She doesn't stand but starts screaming as soon as I put her in her crib. The crying goes on for about an hour (or more like 2 tonight) until she's just too exhausted anymore and falls asleep. I've been giving her motrin and a little teething gel b/c I think she's working on new teeth, but have been at a loss with how to handle this. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one.

Teething would by my thoughts.  Teething does terrible things to wonderful babies, I tell ya.
