Register for clothes?

Did people put clothes on their registries?

I put a few on; mostly b/c they were just so darn cute when we were at BRU and I couldn't resist.  I feel like maybe I should take them off though because its the kind of thing that people like to just pick for themselves, plus maybe it's just harder to find the specific things I chose when you're at the store?

Also, toys?  Did you register for infant toys or is it the same thing as clothes (people like to pick out cute stuff and I should just let them have fun)?

Re: Register for clothes?

  • It is all personal opinion. I didn't put clothes or toys mostly because those are the types of things people pick out on their own anyway. Plus, I'm not finding out the sex of my baby, so I don't know if it would be harder for people to find clothes. But I would leave the clothes on there. The BRU I registered at said whatever isn't bought off my registry, I can buy for 15% off later. So maybe you can get the outfits you want at a discounted price!

  • I put clothes and toys and whatever else for the completion coupon, but people tend to just buy whatever clothes they find cute. Plus, sometimes the clothes you put on the registry aren't in stock anymore and/or they are too difficult to find.

Heck, at our baby shower for DD, I didn't get anything from the registry except a toy box because nobody even looked at it! There weren't any big ticket items since we had purchased those ourselves, but still.

  • I did not put any clothes on my registry, mainly because I don't need clothes!
  • No, he has too many clothes as is, but I fully expect people to buy clothes off-registry as is. People see things they think are cute and they buy it, regardless of if it's your style or not.

  • I registered for a few baby gowns, you know, those little things with the elastic at the bottom, and a woombie, so people would know I wanted those. I also registered for an outfit that I'd ideally like to bring him home in.

My mother insists I have to register for clothes and toys, but I kind of like to see the stuff people pick out, and I'm not really picky about that stuff. I don't love sports things because we're not sports people, but if someone gets him that stuff, he'll wear it anyway. He's only gonna drool on it.

  • I didn't because several people coming to my shower don't live near me, and each store stocks differently. I figured if people want to buy me clothes I would rather them pick things out, and if I don't like something I'll just return it later.

  • When I registered for DD, the clerk told me that their clothing inventory changes so frequently, to register for anything is almost pointless. Onesies and other basics are different though and stay on the shelves. Also, people like to clothes shop so I thought it best to let them pick out what they wanted.

As for toys, I did register for three or four 0-6m type toys because a lot of people "didn't know what to buy" as far as toys went and I wanted a few things for the stroller/car seat. Those were easy to find and even if we didn't get exactly what I registered for, it gave people an idea of what to get that age. Anything older, I expect to buy myself so I didn't put it on my registry.

ETA: Adding those few small toys also put a price range to the registry of around $5, which was helpful to some of my guests. ;)

  • I would register for both. At least a couple items of clothing and some toys. People may still just choose something else but some may get the items you selected.

  • I put clothing and toys on my registry.

I have a particular style so the hope is that people can tell my style from seeing my registry.

And the completion coupon! There are some toys that I NEED her to have. hahah

  • We registered for toys that we liked but not clothes.  But it didn't seem to matter.  People bought what they wanted to buy.  We didn't get any toys really anyway.  We got LOTS of clothes - almost all summer ( I guess that's what was on sale).  Some she will be able to wear, but some are 12m sundresses (I'm due in Nov.).  I think some people didn't understand how to use the registry because my Aunt said as I unwrapped a crib sheet, "That's the one you wanted right?"  I affirmed to be nice, but I really wanted to say, "Well, it's the same brand as the one I wanted."  (I'm not really a pink butterfly kind of person and she got a lot of pink butterfly stuff).  Really though, I learned that you can't rely on baby showers to give you what you need - mostly you'll just get stuff you want to return.  For example, I received pacifiers from the store where I registered, but not the kind I registered for - same for sippy cups and baby spoons.  Then, I ended up feeling guilty because my family was so nice and generous to throw a shower and I feel petty because I'm irritated that I have to return items.  Maybe it's the pg hormones that I have less patience.  idk

We are big returners in my family. I figure if people spend the money on me, they want it to be on something I use. It's gotten to the point that my dad calls EVERY gift a "3D gift certificate." I wouldn't feel guilty about it. I understand annoyed though.
