For those of you that had to give them how long was your baby on them? One pedi said about 4 months but we always seem to get different amswers from different Doctors.
My daughter does fine with them but my son hates them. He even had to stop taking them for little while in the nicu because he was having Brady episodes every time he had them. While that is not a problem anymore I feel like they are causing him to be constipated. He only goes about once a week which the pedi said is fine but he is miserable the last couple of days before he goes. His poop is also dark green which the pedi is also not worried about. He also spits up sometime hours and hours after taking them and it looks like pure vitamin so he isn't digesting them well.
He has been on them 3 months now and hopefully the end is in sight. I need to research different options for him. Poor guy.
Re: Tri vi sol with iron
We've been on Poly-vi-sol with iron pretty much since Adalyn was born. She had (has?) anemia of prematurity and so needs the extra iron. She recently had her 6-month bloodwork and, although the levels were ok, her pedi wants her to stay on them. Luckily she doesn't really seem to have a problem with them. We put them in about 5 to 10 ml of bm/formula, along with Vitamin D and her zantac, and she's been fine.

DS was started on it in the NICU but I stopped giving it to him when we switched to EBF because he hated it plain and wouldn't take a bottle - so that was around 4 mo. I kept hearing he'd get enough vitamins through my milk. Well, he failed his 9 mo iron bloodwork and was diagnosed anemic so then we had to go back on and do additional drops...which led to a second and third blood draw. He is fine now and we have permission to stop the drops as of 16 mo/14 adj.
I advise parents to keep on with the drops unless their doctor says stop or has a different plan. The route we took was a lot more trouble than him just taking the drops from the beginning.
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

Thanks.
