Bottle to open cup transition?

My DD is drinking WCM from a bottle.  In the past she would hold a small glass and drink water from it, but now when I put WCM in it she has no interest --- except to dip things in it.  I want to keep her sippy cup as water only for the most part.  Was anyone successful transitioning from a bottle to open cup?  If so, how did you do it, any tips?  Anybody try it and give up?

  • DD will drink water out of anything, but is very picky with how she gets her milk.  She will not drink milk out of the same type of cup that she uses for water.

  • When Chloe first began using an open cup she would dip pretty much everything she was eating in it.  We decided to let her explore her milk for right now so we haven't stopped her from doing this.  She still takes drinks of milk, plus she's getting milk when she eats the items she dipped in the milk.

She doesn't dip food that much anymore (only occasionally bread items).  It took about a month for her to stop.  Oh, and I never put more than an ounce or so in the cup still, it means more work for me in re-filling it, but it's less mess when she dips/spills.

Try using a few different cups, she might like them better.  Chloe has her favorites and she never dips food in her favorite cups, who knows why.

  • Open cups in our house work better some days than others. Some days they are just a place to dip and drown food - i.e. this morning, I knew DS couldn't have possibly eaten his scrambled eggs in the time it took me to put the milk away, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Then I noticed him fishing in his milk with a fork... yummy! Ugh, sorry... no tips. I usually test the waters first by giving open cups with only a little bit of liquid in them, if they drink it I add more, if they play then they get sippy cups or lids and straws.

  • We really like the Playtex coolster cups that have an open mouth with a plunger to control flow. You have the option to remove the plunger so that the liquid comes out like a normal cup but the mouth piece isn't huge so it helps reduce the amount that spills out all at once. This has a view from the top to show what I mean

  • Her choice, not yours.  Interesting.  Thanks for the input!

  • I got something similar in concept but not as friendly - and looks goofy - haven't used it.  I like the one you posted - looked "big kid" too.  Thanks for the input!
