Vision issues: Seeing floaters

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Not too often, but at times I see spots out of the corner of my eye.  Its quite comical because mostly I think they are gnats flying around, but then realize once I turn my head they were just "floaters".  It happens maybe once a day and doesnt last more than a few seconds. It's very different than when I have experienced blacking out in my past(when not pregnant)  b/c I dont feel dizzy or weak with this.

Wasn't sure if this was a common pregnancy thing or not.   It doesn't bother me much, but def. a new symptom.

Hope everyones having a restful weekend!

Re: Vision issues: Seeing floaters

  • I had this in the shower this morning. At first when a saw it, I thought the same thing that somehow gnats were in my bathroom and kind of freaked out. (Thankfully it was in my bathroom and no one could see me trying to swat the imaginary bugs!)

I did feel a little dizzy after they went away, but it was probably from the sudden movement.

Not that  I'm glad that you are experiencing this, but thank you for sharing.. I don't feel so crazy anymore!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  • This is a symptom of high blood pressure so you should definitly talk to your dr about this.

  • Like queenie said, this can be a symptom of HBP. Call your OB.. he will probably have you run to the drug store to rule out any high blood pressure.

  • Really?? I had an appt on Tues and my blood pressure was still low. Maybe I'm not drinking enough water?? That seems to be the root of all my "pregnancy problems". I've been trying to drink more all day today.

  • I had this happen after I had been laying on my back. I thought they were bugs too. I would see them in the corner of my left eye and when I turned my head they would move or disappear. It was freaking me out as well till I realized what it was. I assumed it was due to me being on my back but I'm going to mention it to my dr just in case. I do have extremely, extremely swollen feet and my dr said it was nothing to worry about unless I see spots. Hmm hopefully it's nothing.

  • I get floaters all the time, pregnant or not. My BP has always been low and doc has never said anything about being concerned. If there are spots or a sudden increase of floaters, it could be a sign of a problem, but the occassional floater is nothing to worry about.

  • I consistently have low blood pressure, but I go to the Dr. This Thursday and will mention it.  They check blood pressure every appt. anyway so hopefully they will see if it changed.

  • If this is a new symptom I would definitely tell your dr.  I have this issue and have for years (well before having children).  I discussed it with my OB when I was PG with DD and she said it can happen to people who have had a lot of ear infections (which I have) and since it was a common occurrence for me before pregnancy she wasn't concerned.  My BP is also always on the low side.

This, this, this. Definitely mention it to your doctor. I had floaters before my blood pressure shot up in my last pregnancy, it may be nothing or it may be an early warning sign, so please tell your doctor about this and any other new symptoms so he/she can continue to monitor you. Best to you.

  • I've had this occasionally. I've taken my blood pressure and it was fine. I would mention it to your doctor and maybe get a cuff for home or check it occasionally if you are near a pharmacy.

    Good luck!
