Let's talk about Labor Food

I know that once labor starts I'm not going to be hungry but it just seems wise to put something in my system that's more substantial than jello and/or broth for the long marathon of labor.  I don't want to eat anything that will tax my system too much obviously and take energy away from labor (i.e. nothing high in fat). And I'm scared that anything high in sugar (i.e. fruit) will cause me to crash.  So any recommendations on what to eat during very early labor to help me get through the long haul or am I just over-thinking this?

  • Oatmeal, apple/fruit sauce, yogurt, smoothies, eggs, basically anything soft that won't be terrible coming back up :)

  • I had no desire to eat during labor with DS. The thought or smell of food was disgusting.

  • With an RCS I am not allowed to eat after midnight the night before, but I am thinking of ordering chinese the night before for supper (around 9-10pm!)

I remember not wanting to look at food when I was in labour.  I was really nauseous.  Don`t overthink it, just eat what you normally would.

  • Carbs are good. My H made me pancakes and steak before we left for the hospital. Once there I snacked on fruit and a granola bar type thing a few times.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to send DH for food for the hospital bag tomorrow and hopefully labor will happen tonight because I'm putting it off until then.

  • I grabbed some protein bars and Popsicles for when the time comes.
