panicking

OK - DD is fussier than normal today.  She spit up a HUGE amount all over Granny, and she is spitting up a lot more than usual.  She is also getting a lot more burps today.  She screamed at DH this morning when he kissed her... I thought at first that she was upset about the whisker burn, but now I'm starting to think that she is getting sick.  What do you ladies think?  Could she be getting sick?  Do growth spurts ever cause them to spit up more and increase fussiness?  She is 10 weeks old as of today so maybe she is hitting the 3 month growth spurt a little early.  I think I need someone to talk me down.

Re: panicking

  • Could be....has she ever had an issue with gas or reflux? That's my first thought when ds gets fussy and spits up a lot.

Yes - she is on ranitidine for reflux and seemed to be doing really well up to this point.  She always has really huge burps and intestinal gas has been a real problem for her.  Do babies have times where the symptoms are worse than others?  I am EBF and I don't think that I ate anything too crazy recently.  : (

  • yeah...I'm thinking gas.
  • DS is on that too and he has his good days and his bad ones.
  • Ditto to ASKSAK...my DS has ups and downs. When mine starts spitting up a lot, I try to reduce how much I feed him each time by an .5 to 1 oz but increase the frequency just a tad. For example, we backed down from 4 oz to 3 last time and fed every 2 to 2.5 hours. It seemed to help. Our pedi also gave us the okay to give about .5 tsp Mylanta or Maalox (look for the cherry version b/c it doesn't have aluminum) if he seems to be especially uncomfortable from stomach acid.

  • I definitely noticed that DD spit up a lot more at about 5 weeks (which is when she hit her 6 week growth spurt). I don't know if it was related to the growth spurt or if it was a coincidence, though. Good luck! I hope everything works out!
