Overnight question from beginner

I'm doing a CD trial, DS is 5 months old.  Overnight I have been using the new Thirsties AIO with an extra hemp insert.  We haven't had any leaks but the inserts are soaked when he gets up for the day and his skin is wet.  Is it normal for his skin to be wet in CDs?  Or is it because I don't have enough inserts?  Sorry i'm a newbie and not sure what is normal.  I can always add an extra hemp insert tonight and see how that goes.  I'm just wondering if wet skin is normal or if it means I don't have enough absorbancy.  TIA.

Wet skin is normal with CDs since natural fibers don't wick moisture away like a disposable. As long as the wetness doesn't irritate your LO, it's nothing to worry about. A fleece liner will help wick moisture away if it becomes a concern (but won't add absorbency).

If your inserts are completely soaked, though, it can't hurt to add another one.

I think it's normal. We use BG/Imagine pockets with DS overnight and while he usually doesn't leak (only has a few times) his skin is damp and the inserts are very saturated in the morning. I always wipe him off with a baby wipe  after he wakes up.

If you don't like the wet feel just cut up some fleece to make them have a stay dry feel.

CD's will feel wet because they don't have all of those crazy chemicals soaking up the urine and turning it into gel like the disposables do. As long as you're not getting leaks and baby isn't irritated, that's fine. And eventually, the feel of a wet diaper can be good motivation to get baby to toilet train; babies who wear cloth often potty train much earlier than those in disposables (they are oblivious to their BMs).
