1st Trimester

Aciphex and Gerd

Hi Ladies,

I have just started lurking around a bit.  We are starting to think about having kids but I have Gerd and take 30mg of aciphex everyday.  Anyone else with Gerd know how to deal with it once pregnant?  Before taking the aciphex I was nauseous everyday and could barely eat anything, I'm worried than when pregnant if I can't take my meds it will cause a lot of trouble.

Thanks!

  • I don't know much about Gerd, but if your trying you should see your doc and see if this med is safe, or if you can change meds to one that is safe during pregnancy. I would make sure it's safe before you get pregnant.

  • Hi-

I take achiphex daily and while it's a class b drug my dr advised me not to take I during the first trimester. He recommended tums or Zantac 75mg. Call your ob and ask what they recommend but you are better safe than sorry.

  •  I was taking Nexium, and although the gastroenterologist suggested it would probably be ok to take in pregnancy, my family practitioner suggested that I stop taking it. He said at this point he is treating my fetus, and not me. If I'm uncomfortable, it's something as an adult I have to deal with.Better for the baby to avoid all it can at this point.

I knew this sort of thing may happen when I decided to get pregnant, so I was prepared for the discomfort. Honestly, besides indigestion and the occasional heartburn, it isn't that bad and worth the pain to have a healthy child. (coming from someone who has been on these regiments for 18 yrs)
