I've heard wonderful things about Frontiers. As for a convertible, look at the Graco Size4Me. It's a relatively new seat that should last your youngest a very long time if he can fit into it now. The MyRides are good seats too.
I have two britax boulevards, and I like them. They're easy to install with the LATCH, although I think the new safety regs say to use seat belts instead once your LO reaches a certain weight.
I got the boulevard vs. the other Britax's b/c it has a higher weight limit (70) so I can use it longer. It also has the additional true side impact protection.
We have the Britax Advocate for DS and will get the Frontier when he is older. My mom has the Roundabout for her car and it's nice, but I prefer the Advocate for everyday.

It depends on the car, it's usually 48lbs. Some cars that is the weight of the child, and others it's car seat and child together. Someone just announced that their LATCH goes higher than 48, can't remember who though. It's on a pdf floating around, google LATCH/UAS weight limits in cars, you might be able to find it.
And the weight limit on the Britax at 70lbs is misleading, it's unlikely you will have a 70lb child in there. The Advocate is outgrown when the seated shoulder height exceeds 17". That happened at about 3 1/2 for K and T. 4 for E. None of them were 40lbs yet.
Sorry for all that youve gone through... Sounds miserable. We just bought DD a frontier and love it. No complaints yet. I've also heard great things about the Recaro seats and the Graco Nautilus.
I was actually going to get a Nautilus last week, but was really more interested in the comparable Baby Trend Fastback BRU said they didn't carry it in stores. It ended up that they actually DID have the Fastback in the store so I grabbed it. I liked it better because the seat was a little lower... more similar to an actual booster. Once I installed it I loved it even more. It has rigid LATCHes and doesn't budge at all on my seat. Very happy thus far.
Convertible wise, we have an Evenflo Triumph and had no problems with it. If I needed to replace that though, I would go with a Safety First Alpha Elite. It rear faces like a regular convertible, but forward faces as a harnessed booster as well as a booster without harness up to 65lbs. It would be comfortable for an older toddler for longer than the Triumph or Symphony, IMO.
Re: (Untitled)
Sorry about your car. My transmission went out for the second time this week so I am in the market for a new car as well.
No recommendations for a booster, but we have a Britax Boulevard and a Evenflo Symphony and love both.
