AVO testing?

Or something that sounds like that? I got a rather bizarre vm from my doctor's office yesterday. First it was you need to get your rhogam bloodwork done this week. By which I assume she meant the shot I was getting as she was leaving the message and then 10 min later it was nevermind you don't need it since you're getting the AVO test in 4 weeks.

Huh? I have  no idea what she is talking about, as no one has discussed this test with me before. Have any of you heard of it or know what it is?

ETA: I have left them a message, but haven't heard back yet, so now I'm curious.

Re: AVO testing?

  • Maybe they said ABO testing? They sometimes refer to testing your blood type as ABO testing because your blood can be A, B or O positive or negative. Typically they do your blood typing earlier on in your pregnancy though. GL!

  • I'm thinking they mean ABO testing - did you have your blood type tested early on?  If not, they'll need to check your blood type to see if you're Rh +/- and if you're negative, you'll need Rhogam.  As far as I know, AVO testing doesn't exist.

  • Huh, update us when you find out please.

Your Dr office should know your blood type prior to 29weeks, and if you are negative and need the shot- you typically get it around 28weeks. 33weeks seems kind of late to me...

  • Maybe she did mean ABO? That is really strange however, as I've told them I'm A negative since day 1 and have already had the rhogam shot 3 times. They didn't get back to me over the weekend, I'm guessing she mixed me up with another patient?
