DD doesn't sleep much at daycare

Is this normal?  She still eats like a champ, but she barely sleeps during the day anymore.  The daycare can be loud at times, and I know she's growing and staying awake more, but still.  When we pick her up after work, she's totally exhausted.  She falls asleep in the car and we have to wake her to eat before we put her to bed at 7 pm.  Has anyone experienced this?

  • Same with my DD! She's a bad napper to begin with, but even worse at daycare. She just loves to watch other kids and play.  Somedays she only has 30 mins of napping total for the entire day!!

  • How old is she?  My son has always been a terrible daycare napper and it has only gotten worse.  I think he doesn't like to miss anything amd b/c there is a lot going on there, he doens't like to nap.  He is now 1 and sleeps about an hour a day at daycare.  I have been told that kids have different behaviors and patterns at home and daycare so I would just go with it.  Evenings are sometimes tough b/c they are overtired from being awake a lot during the day but it will get better as she gets older.
  • She's 3.5 months and has been more alert and wanting to "hang out" with people more and more, rather than sleep.  She's just so darn tired when we pick her up.  Fortunately, she's not cranky tired and goes right to bed after eating (sometimes while eating).  Thanks ladies.
  • How long has she been going to daycare?  DS didn't sleep much at first, but now that he has adjusted, he's sleeping a lot more.  He was a bear in the evenings at first because he was so tired.

I'd talk to your provider.  We discussed his sleepy signs because I think they were missing that he was tired.  Later, I had to ask them to please try to get him to take an afternoon nap.  He was napping in the am, but then being awake all afternoon and was grouchy and exhausted by the time I picked him up.  Since then, they make an effort and more often than not, he sleeps.  They should be able to work with you.

  • I've been having this exact problem for the last 2 days.  She will fall asleep when I go over there to nurse her, but wakes up when she is put down.  Last night, she fell asleep for the night at 6:00pm.  Usually she stays up until 8:00-9:00 and STTN.  She woke up last night at 1:30, ready to play.  I'm really hoping she will start taking naps.
  • DS's naps at daycare are usually about 30 minutes.  He does the same at home,s o I guess he is used to it.  On the weekends he sometimes will take longer naps, but I think they adjust like we do.
  • She started daycare the first of October and went 3 days a week.  Starting in November, she goes full-time.  Part of the problem is that a handful of the infants are older and getting ready to move over to another room and they're very noisy.  The boys especially (so I've been told) like to scream a lot and it wakes her up.  I guess she'll eventually adjust to it.  It just seems sad to pick her up, take her home and immediately feed her and put her to bed.  But she does STTN, so I'm thankful for that.
  • Hopefully she'll start sleeping more soon!  It's definitely a drag to feel like you don't see your baby at all (or that when you do see him, he's very cranky, as was the case with us).

  • I could have written your post.  I don't know how old your DD is, but mine has gotten much better now that she is down to 1 nap a day.  on a good day, we get a 1 1/2 hr nap, which is great!  and she goes to bed at 6:30pm now!
