Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Refusing baby food and cereal!

9 1/2 month old started 4 days ago eating only half of his baby food at meals. Now he is not eating any at all. Still takes his formula though. Is it his teething? Or the result of his head cold?? I'm worried he is not eating enough. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Are you talking purees? Try giving him small bites of food banana, avocado, puffs, etc. I wouldn't worry about him not eating enough. If he is still drinking his bottles, he is fine.

Yes, not eating cereal, oatmeal or his 2nd3rd stage pured baby foods. I try the puffs, yogurt melts and others. But he doesn't like those either. Think it's the hard texture and he makes a disgusted face too. I guess we will just stick with the bottles then until he starts to like " real food". Thanks!

Try foods he's eaten in puree form, but give them in solid form.  Like carrots, green beans, baked apples etc.  Maybe he's just not wanting to be fed anymore and wants to do it himself.  My DD did this abotu 2 months ago, totally refused purees and now she eats everything we eat.  If you start with foods he's already had, it might be less of a shock to his taste buds.

  • I have the same thing with DS. He wants to feed himself. I usually will give him little bite size veggies/fruits and then every couple of bites I give him a spoonful of a puree. That way I am using the purees I have on hand, making sure he is getting enough to eat, and letting him figure out how to feed himself all at the same time.
