I hate you, Tori Spelling

After much debate, DH and I have all but decided on Finn for our little guy's name.

And then this morning, I see that Tori Spelling and whatever her husband's name is had their son this week and named him Finn Davey McDermott. Awesome.  Thanks a lot, you horse-faced has-been.

I mean, what does it say about us that we have the same taste in names as these two?

Did I mention that their little girl's name is Hattie, another one of my all time favorites? ugggh.

I guess maybe it isn't so unusual and she isn't so famous that everyone will make the association, do you think?  I mean it isn't like we were planning on going with Apple and then Gwenyth Paltrow had her daughter two months before, right?

  • You picked a great name!! I wanted the name Finn if we were having a little boy. Screw her!

  • I would say that because it is not a crazy out there name like Apple that you will be ok.  Finn is great.  I don't think anyone will think you are copying Tori.

  • I think Finn is popular enough on its own that people probably won't make an association. That said, I totally get what you're saying and I wouldn't want any association with her at all. Not a fan.

This.  However, same thing happened to me with Kourtney KarTrashian choosing Penelope for her new daughter.  We didn't think the name had become so popular.  We did some rethinking and have since settled on a new (BETTER!) name

Uggh, a Kardashian would be much worse!

  • Same thing with Liam!  DH loved it for years (pre-Tori Spelling's kid) and then got super annoyed that it started climbing the popular charts after she did.
  • It's fine if you have the same taste in names.... just tell me you do NOT have the same taste in swimwear.

  • That's EXACTLY how I felt when stupid Posh Spice named her daughter Harper. That was my #1 name!!!!! I literally yelled "damn you Posh Spice B*tch!!!" at the TV.... *sigh*

  • It's okay... I don't think enough people pay attention to Tori Spelling that they will make any sort of name connection.

    Ha! Love it.

I agree with PP's - go for it! It's doubtful that many people in the real world will even remember what Tori named her kiddo in 2 months. It's such a cute name!

Ha! this is me, exactly. I always loved Liam, and then she "stole" it and I feel like that kicked off Liam's popularity. It was on our list for awhile but I was concerned it was becoming too popular. ANYway, I think we are going with Liam now, but one of the names DH really likes is Finn, and I told him, maybe for the next if we have another boy!  I guess I'll just buy that swim suit too and copy her completely! :-P

Yup, we were going with Penelope also. Still can't find something we like better, but I am NOT naming her Penelope anymore.

  • Yes, Harper was the name I wanted, but a friend just reminded me that Posh had named her kid that, UGH. The Beckham's are pretty famous, so now I feel I can't use it, darn it.

  • When I hear Finn, I think of Finn from Glee and not Tori Spelling :). And for Harper, I only know that name from the Wizards of Waverly Place (yes I'm Disney Channel show watching 34 year old :))  and not the Beckhams.  If you like the names then I say go for it. People are going to associate it with whatever they know anyway.

  • I think more people will think you're naming your son after the character on Glee as opposed to Tori Spelling's child.  :)

  • I love Finn... but it is a tad popular these days so no one will associate your name with her.

  • I feel your pain: we chose Camden for our little girl... Kristin Cavallari and her fiance just used it. For their little boy. Finn is popular, but I get it and it still sucks because it can make it more-so when a celeb uses it. Luckilly, we are still a bit away and people forget about it by then. Stick with Finn, it'll be great!

  • Ew. She does suck. If you want to name your kid Finn, do it. Screw everyone else. Just be glad you weren't thinking of naming him Lorenzo. IMO, nobody on the planet is as bad as Snooki. I can't stand her...

  • I wouldn't have known anything about Tori having named her baby Finn. Probably, she's not popular enough for people to think you got the idea from her.
