Mixed feelings on leaving daycare

Dd has been in a home daycare for a little over a year. I love my dcp but I was recently offered a spot at a center and decided to take it. Mainly because it has better hours and I don't have to coordinate around her vacation schedule. Also dd will be with more kids her own age. But I do feel really sad about taking her out of her current daycare. The provider is so awesome and she was really good to dd. I feel like I am breaking up with a friend.
Did anyone else go through this?Tomorrow is dd's last day and I want to get something nice for her any ideas?

Re: Mixed feelings on leaving daycare

  • My girls were in the same daycare center from infant to when they started (start for little onePreK.  Just under 6 years in the same place between both girls.  I loved the center but for us, leaving meant starting the next phase.  DD#1 has been out of the center for 2 years and starts Kindy on Wednesday and DD#2 just left 2 weeks ago and starts PreK Wed.  We are actually heading to the school open house tonight.  So exciting.  While I know how you feel as far as the relationship with the sitter - just think about all the great new experiences and friends for your DD.  Yes, it will be an adjustment for all of you but I think in the long run, it will be great (if it is anything like the center I had used).  My girls did so many things they never would have done in a home care or home with me.

  • Went through this with DD. my daughter loved her baby sitter. But, I wanted to move closer to work, and it wasn't convenient. I decided to move when my lease was up that March. Before I had to tell her, though, she had a heart attack and died!!!!

It's never easy to change providers, but just do it professionally.

  • We just let our nanny go because we unexpectedly got into daycare. I definitely felt like it was a break up. We loved our nanny and she really loved our girls. It went ok though. She understood - and we helped her find another family
