Microdermal piercings

I have two microdermal piercings near my hips. I see my midwife for the first time next week so I'll obviously ask her then, but what do you ladies think? Will I need to get these removed before my little one is born? I may want to because they'll start to look ridiculous as I replace my abs with a bump but it's gonna hurt more to have them taken out than it did to have them placed.

Please ignore the dumb look on my face. It's right after weigh-ins for a powerlifting meet so I'm delirious with hunger and dehydration in this picture. It's the only one I can find where you can see the piercings though.

Re: Microdermal piercings

  • That's a tough one. If you wait until your belly gets bigger, it may be more painful to have them and even harder to remove. Have you ever been a poster on say like, a body piercing forum anywhere? I used to be part of one many years ago, but I think it's since died down from when I used to post. There were many knowledgeable people there, including piercers, who were able to share a lot of life experiences in regards to piercings and tattoos, etc.

Or ask the person who did the piercings in the first place if s/he has any insight about it..

  • Most of the piercers I've asked have said some version of "hmmm, that's interesting. It's never come up." Some say my body may reject them naturally. They've all said there's no harm in removing them except for possibly a small scar where they have to cut them out. I'll probably have them removed sooner rather than later. I feel like most shops would balk at the idea of cutting into a pregnant woman that's showing. Ideally, I'd like to have a doc do it and use a little local anesthetic but I have no idea yet what that'll cost me since I doubt my insurance will cover it (I can just hear the conversation with the tricare rep now). It's only about $40 to get them removed at my shop.
  • I have no knowledge of this subject, but looking at them makes me scared for when you get bigger. I am no expert but I am sure you will make the right decision for you :
