Okay, I have been with my current company for 3 1/2 years now. I have been promoted and I make a pretty decent salary finally. Well, recently I have been thinking about leaving because I'm not as happy here anymore and most of my department has been cut so I literally sit in an office all by myself everyday with nobody to talk to. I interviewed for another job, and I am pretty sure I will get it. This job is a little less money, the same exact position, but closer to home, more people to talk to, and I can easily move up in the company. I am not sure what to do. I like my current job just fine, but the commute is longer, and I am pretty much deadlocked in my position. Would you take a lower paying position if it meant you may have a chance for a better job within the company later on? Or should I hold out for a higher paying position someplace else completely and stick it out here? I don't know what to do!!! I feel like I'm just logging time here, not really going anywhere and jobs are so few and far between. Thanks for any advice ladies.
Re: Job Dilemma Help Please!
I guess it would really depend, how much less money are we talking? 2k or 10k? 2k, I'd consider it, 10k no way! I also consider my plans for another child - are you better to keep a job thats easy and stable if another baby is in the near future? How much closer to home is it? 10 mins or 1hr?
Also what are your long term career plans?
Now having said all that, I know how much of a difference it makes when you have friends at work and people you can relate to.
Sorry I wasn't very definitive in my answer.
I took a pay cut in my last job change. It was about $2,000 but I have twice as much sick and vacation time, plus tons more flexibility.
One thing to consider is the kind of field you are in - is there any danger in job cuts? If you are the newest person in the department, would you be the first let go because of less time with the company?
Like the pp said, what are your future plans for work/family? Think about them carefully before the decision is made.
