I'm embarrassed to admit

That I just now registered to vote. My husband and I have always been of the opinion that voting doesn't really matter, but recently I have decided otherwise. I can't very well complain about the state of politics or complain that Romney might be president if I dont do anything about it.

I made the mistake of telling a family member and it's going to bite me in the a'ss. I live in Texas although Austin doesn't really count, right? so half my friends/family are firmly republican. I don't want to get in a political war so I guess I'm going to have to get good at telling people to back off.

  • Thank you for registering. Don't forget to vote and please make sure you are informed about it! Especially at the local level, that is the stuff that is truly going to have an impact on your day to day. :)

  • We always vote, but I really don't know why, because my H and I are polar opposites politically so we automatically cancel each other out.

  • Congrats on registering! I'm personally of the opinion everyone should vote in most elections. Even if you don't like both major party candidates, there are always third parties you can support plus state and local races and issues.

  • This actually reminded me that I needed to re-register my new address!

    Thanks!

  • Good for you for registering! DH's job requires him to report directly to the mayor of our city (he's the city's attorney). So unfortunately politics are a big part of our lives. We usually don't discuss them because we have very different views on medical care (I'm a nurse) and abortions and he's more concerned with city/county/stae development and issues related to that.

  • Dumb voting question. Do I have to register every election or is that automatic? Do we get new registration cards in the mail automatically or what? I have no flucking clue where mine or H's are.

  • I live in Illinois and, while I'm 100% sure Barack Obama would take the state again with or without me, you'd better believe I'm still going to get out there and vote.

Elections are decided by districts that sometimes come down to a few thousand votes. Please see Florida in 2000.

Not to mention, I'm proud of the women who fought for my right and want to pass that pride on to my daughter.

In other words, good work. Thanks for your vote!

  • Every vote DOES count.  After Bush v. Gore, I'm kinda surprised anyone thinks it doesn't matter.  My friend's mom was in public office for several years at the state level and lost her election in 2010 by literally 100 votes.
