Anyone with gluten intolerance and TTC?

I have had 2 mc in the last 3 months, both very early at 6 and 5 weeks. I believe I have a gluten intolerance (IgA showed weak positive and Ive have mild" tummy troubles" for years). I read that recurrent mc is a top complication of celiac and so Ive begun a gluten free diet starting yesterday. Anyone else have this issue or find that once they went gluten free they were able to carry to term? Also, my hcg are always very low. My first preg at 6 weeks my hcg  was 20, two days later 32, then two days later I bled and I was a 3. Skipped a month ttc per MD advice and then this month hcg 15 at 4.5 weeks and 6 two days later, mc started the next day :(

I wonder why I never get high hcg levels? Even other ppl Ive followed with a mc state they are like in the 1,000's. Anyone know what could cause it?

Im 28, very healthy, eat primarily all fruits/veggies/lean meats/protein and (until yesterday) whole wheat, grains etc. I drink 2-4 liters of water daily, no caffiene, no alcohol after ovulation (only one or two nights out during first half of cycle), exercise 3 times a week, im at a loss here. If its celiac that causing it, I am praying that the diet change will help but wondering how long it takes to "fix". Im currently having my 2nd mc and think i want to ttc without waiting for another cycle first. It didnt help last time and Im hearing that we are more fertile immediatly after mc.

Anyone been there or know anything about this situation?

  • I haven't had that particular issue, but I have Celiac and when I went GF, my whole body did such a fantastic change! *hugs* I am sorry you are having such a rough time. I wish I could give you a great positive story, but all I can say is - if gluten intolerance is an issue, you will feel so much better after eliminating it, and I hope it helps!

  • I have a non-celiac gluten intolerance. I was not TTC but when I stopped eating wheat & gluten but I got pregnant.

Although we were not trying to conceive we had had mishaps with contraceptives in the past and I never got pregnant or m/c, that I knew about. So I attributed this pregnancy to me being off the wheat and gluten, my body was finally happy and normal. IDK if that's the real reason but it was the only thing we could think of.

Hope this was helpful and all works out for you on your journey :)

  • Celiac disease ihas been linked to infertility.  If you have it and are eating gluten, chances are you will have a hard time getting pregnant.

  • Before going gluten free, I suggest going to a gastroentonologist to have them run some tests, such as bloodwork, and they can even do an endoscopy to take a sample of your intestines to check for celiac.  If you go gluten free before these tests, and then get tested, it can mess up the results.

    Good luck! :)

If you have any gluten free questions, feel free to ask me.  I've been diagnosed with celiac disease since I was 9 years old.

  • Hi! I am in a similar situation... I had my first pregnancy and then MC at 5 weeks, hcg was 25 two days before I MC. A few weeks later I found out I have an atypical form of Celiacs! So.... We are just getting ready to try in January again, and it's been two cycles, and a couple weeks cold turkey gf. I cheated a tiny bit on Xmas and felt it through today. Not doing that again. I hope this new gf diet helps you and me! :) I'm learning as I go, still don't know much about Celiacs and what I can cant eat but I'm learning.
