Saying No

Ugh, we just got another call for a placement. We had to turn it down. It was for 10 & 12 yr old girls. Our preference is 0-6. I feel bad but it is totally out of our range. I could consider a little out of our range but that far does not feel right. *Sigh*

Re: Saying No

  • Fred: That situation sounds like it was a mess all the way around.

I honestly would not know what to do with the ages of the girls but never really thought we would be saying no. Guess you do not think about these things.

  • I feel like I'm going to have a hard time saying no as well.  There's a difference between a sad story tugging at your heart versus genuinely feeling guilty for turning down the placement though, and I definitely don't think you should feel bad or guilty.  It's important that those kids go to the right home where they'll be properly cared for and their needs properly addressed, and I think it's commendable and wise to know your limits of what you can offer.  You were actually doing them a service in turning down this placement, because you knew you couldn't provide exactly what these kids needed.  But yes, let's hope and pray that there is a forever home out there for them.

Your call will come.  Journey with hope :-)

  • That is really hard, but I think you were right to stick with your gut and only do what you feel comfortable with.

  • Saying no is super hard.  Especially after you have anticipating the call for so long.  We declined 3 placements before we said "Yes" to our current placement.  Despite the guilt for saying no, I am now so thankful that we made sure we were 100% comfortable with kiddos we were welcoming into our house.  There have still been some surprises with these boys, but we haven't felt like we are in over our heads.

Hang in there!  I hope you get the right call soon!

  • Saying no is so hard :( But, if you dont turn down the placements that arent right for you, your home will be full when the right placement comes.

     hang in there!
