first time flying with LO tomorrow-question

Hi ladies.  I read March2008's post below and thank you all for the good tips for keeping DD entertained.  One question:  Can I take DD's snacks on board in the diaper bag in a tupperware container (meaning the box has been opened)?  We will buy a bottle of water for her sippy cup and I can buy snacks for her at the airport, too, but if possible, I would prefer to bring her own snacks.  TIA!

  • You can bring your own snacks. Even pouches are fine. Just show TSA if the snack is a liquid and they might want to run extra tests, or they might just have you pass it through the x-ray machine with everything else. I'm pretty sure you can even bring water in a sippy (might be safer in a baby bottle since you're allowed to bring water for formula), but that might be more trouble than it's worth. You could always try and just ask TSA when you get there if you need to dump out your baby's water.

GL! They're really very helpful to families with young children. You'll be fine!

  • Awesome, thank you!!  Good to know about the water in a bottle and pouches.  I'm not as much concerned with her water as her snacks since she is in a very picky phase right now!  I want to make sure she eats and also snacking is a good way to keep her entertained :)

  • Yes. You can take your own milk and water too. We had all of our liquidy snacks and their prefilled sippy cups in one soft-sided cooler. We just told the TSA people about it, and they just swabbed the inside. Easy.
  • Thanks for the help.  Luckily we are flying domestic this time.  What about dried snack foods like crackers?  Okay to take on board in a tupperware container?  Nothing to really swab.

  • How about ice packs? Are they okay to bring? I don't see them listed as prohibited items on the TSA website, but just wondering if anyone has had any issues from their own experience.

Dried snacks are fine too. There are only restrictions on liquids, so dried snacks in tupperware are np.

Thank you!  I wasn't sure since they will not be in an unopened box going through security and I couldn't find info on tsa's website.
