Night time feeds

How do you get throught the night time/ early morning feedings? DS is 2 1/2 weeks old and I experience extreme guilt when I wake up with the grumps and can hardly stand to diaper a screaming baby and keep awake through a feeding. It's not always like that, some nights are a little harder than others and some nights my patientce is a little more durable. Any advice for a FTM?

Re: Night time feeds

  • I was that way wen my DS was at 2 weeks and Dad went back to work so I felt like I was on my own. Trust me it does get better its just a bit of baby blues your body and mind will adjust just give it a little bit of time.

  • I totally remember feeling this way and feeling guilty about it at the same time. But just know that what you feel is normal due to the baby blue hormones and sleep deprivation combined. It does feel like time is standing still right now because I remember feeling like this is never going to end. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Now DS is 9 weeks old and waking up at most twice a night but sometimes I can't help to think back when he was 2-3 weeks old and feel guilty a bit to how I felt then.
  • Have DH help as much as possible.  In those early days, all I had to do was feed the baby.  DH would go and bring me the baby, I'd feed and go back to sleep while DH changed diapers if necessary or put the baby back to bed.
