Adoption

A few initial purchases.

Well I was supposed to hear back from a SW today about our initial F2A application and didn't. Humph. I'll call tomorrow. But to feel like I'm doing SOMETHING, I bought a kitchen/home fire extinguisher, two smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for each bedroom, and a child's safety kit that includes things like outlet covers and drawer/cabinet latches. Goodwill was also having a half off book sale, so I bought 8 kids books to begin and initial collection :

I was eyeing kids room stuff but it's too early to buy. Especially since we don't know yet if we're getting on child or two, boy or girl, infant, toddler, or both.... I wonder if the whole room/toys/clothes buying is just going to have to be a last minute whirlwind. Hmmmm.

  • Well at least you are making progress in one area!  Hope your SW calls you back soon.  Are any of the kids books ones you'd recommend?

Well, they're from goodwill, so I don't know if any are in print or not anymore. I got a muppet babies "I Can Go Potty" book, a Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes book, First Reader's "Three Billy Goats Gruff," an Aurthur book about becoming a reader, a Clifford baby board book, a board book on "Going to the Doctor," and a few others. I really like the "I can go potty" and the mother goose books.

  • I have a slight addiction to buying kids books. Goodwill is a great place to snag them cheap.

I am sure it feels good to start buying little things.

  • We are also in the beginning stages of f2a paperwork; but I have started decorating the room already! A bed designated for the the child is a requirement to be licensed, so we bought a twin bed for now and have room for another if needed and/or a crib. We have 2 spare bedrooms, but I'm not furnishing/decorating the second one. I will probably start buying books; I agree anything else is tricky since we won't know age/gender of child ahead of time. Good luck w/the process:

  • When I was pregnant with DD, my sister bought me a box of kids books from eBay. It had just about every Doctor Seuss book I have ever heard of. So you can check that out too!
