I opted for the amnio. The m/c rate for CVS (1:100- 1:200) is higher than amnio, plus it's a more uncomfortable procedure. The hospital where I had my amnio has a 1:1000 m/c rate. That alone made me far more comfortable.
DH and I had the same concerns as you regarding the test being conducted later in pregnancy, but I was just more comfortable with an amnio. Ultimately, you have to decide if you're comfortable finding out results when your pregnancy is further along.
This and amnio is a much more comprehensive test- tests for far more than Downs or variations of Trisomy. My amnio was done as 15 w, 2 days and was a piece of cake.
