FTM BF?

Baby is a week old today, and I'm wondering if this id considered cluster feeding, or if there are some tips you ladies can give me.
She will feed on one side for about 1530 minutes. She will then pass out and I can't wake her I get her naked, tickle her, change her diaper etc. About a half hour later she will wake up hungry and I switch to the other side and she'll feed again for a half hour.

Should I be doing something else to wake her sooner after the other breast. Also, does this count as two separate feedings, or should I still start out with the opposite as the first breast or keep switching?

Re: FTM BF?

  • it is normal. honestly for the first month all i did was breastfeed. he took only one breast at a time spent around 20 min on it and then fall asleep ..only to want to eat again after max one hour . i would offer him another breast that time. as long as your baby gets 8 or more wet diapers a day you are fine. it is a learning curve for both mom and baby. it will get better with time. now my son goes to average one and half hour to 2 hour between feeds in day and three hours during night.

  • Thanks ladies, I really appreciate the support. I figured we were doing the right thing, just feels good to double check. Being able to BF my little girl feels great, I know it's the best for her. We got out to a rough start because my milk didn't come in until the end of day 5 and she lost a whole poundan was super fussy because se wasnt getting much colostrum so we're trying to gain it all back.
