? for those that failed the 1 hour glucose test

I remember at least one person mentioning that they failed the 1 hour test to the point that their dr didn't make them take the 3 hour glucose test. Did multiple people have this happen? I was just wondering what your score was.

I got my results today and I failed the 1 hour. But both the nurse and dr separately made comments about how bad my fail was. They said that they want the score to be under 140 and mine was 153. I just don't want to get my hopes up for passing the 3 hour test when it really isn't going to happen. I'd rather just know. The not knowing kills me.

  • I failed the 1 hour with a score of 150 (looking for a 140). My nurse made it sound like that was barely failing so I wasn't freaked out about it.

I took the 3 hour and passed with flying colors.

Of course everyone is different but don't stress yourself out about it. You can't do anything until you get the 3 hour results anyway!

  • First of all, you didn't fail that badly. A difference of 13 points when it comes to blood sugar is not horrible. My doctor wanted mine to be 130 or under. I was 150. I did the 3 hour test and passed with no problem. My numbers were way under the limits. Lots of people fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour.

  • Ok. Thanks ladies. It just got me concerned that both the nurse and dr made comments about how I didn't even come close to passing. hmm...maybe they were exaggerating or trying to be humorous. Idk, but it sure got me worried.

  • I falied my 1 hour test with a score of 141. I have Kaiser insurance and they wanted a score lower than 130. My doctor didn't freak out and said it wasn't by much. I took the 3 hour test and thankfully passed. I was close to the limit for my 1st and 2nd hour blood numbers, but at the 3rd hour numbers I was totally fine. Don't stress about it. The day before my 3 hour test, I ate very little carbs and avoided sweets and desserts completely. Not sure if it helped, but I passed!
  • I failed as the nurse said my numbers were very elevated but I never asked what the numbers were. Figured I failed so the numbers weren't a concern at the time.  I go Friday for the 3 hr and ask then.

  • I too failed with a 150 when they were looking for 140. My nurse said I "barely" failed. *shrug* I actually have started eating a healthier diet - similar to what I would need to if I do fail the 3 hr & actually have GD.  And my digestive issues have completely cleared up! I feel tons better. :) I take the 3 hr test on Friday.

  • I failed the 1 hour with a 170 something, and passed the 3 hour. First time I failed with a 140 something.

  • I failed the 1 hr with a 135 (I guess they use a lower cutoff than most of 130) but passed yesterday's 3 hr no problem.  When do you go for your 3 hr?  I'm sure you'll be ok, think positive!

  • I failed the 1 hour this time and they said they wanted to skip the 3 hour. I had GD with my first pregnancy too though.

I failed the 1 hour with a 151. They also wanted it to be under 140. But I passed each of my 4 blood draws for the 3 hour. I did not do anything differently. I fasted for both as per my OB's office policy. It can happen. You didn't fail it by that much. Take your husband, laptop, a book, something to keep you occupied for the 3 hour. It was not as bad as I had made it out to be in my mind. Good luck!

  • I failed the one hour with a 191 needed a 140 and so the next week I did the 3 hour test. I passed hour 1 and hour 2 i got a 165 just exactly where I needed to be so since I passed hour 1 and 2 they let me go and said I passed!
  • I failed the one hour with a score of 144.  They were looking for 139 or less.  I was annoyed that I had to do the 3 hour after seeing that most people that have a close call don't normally fail the 3 hour. With the 3 hour I "passed", but it was explained to me that I failed one of the blood draws (I assume it was the first since I failed the 1 hour test) and then the other 2 were good.  They required me to pass 2 out of 3.  They didn't tell me the numbers.

It sucked.  I'm not gonna lie.  Take a good book with you and be prepared to look like a heroin addict.  One of the phlebotomists (sp?) was really rough on me and of course I got her twice on the same arm.  I had bruises for a week.  Maybe you will have better luck.  From what I saw you will probably be fine. Wink
