That is so tragic and heartbreaking, Ernie.  We got a taste of how common it was here, because the hospital wouldn't let us leave without watching a video about shaking baby syndrome.  Apparently it is SO common here in my area, they assume everyone will do it.  That's what they said.  And someone in a similar position of authority as DH said he's had a few soldiers wives kill their children this way.  It's absolutely frightening.  DH has had to go into deplorable conditions of his own soldiers and threaten to remove their children for neglect or unsanitary conditions.  It's unbelievable.  I had no idea it was so rampant, but it is, and it's terrible.

I am actually a member of both FB groups. I lurk on the one with the 2011 and 2012 moms because I feel like I never have much to contribute and I am an active poster on the "secret" one. That group was opened up to anyone who wanted to join when we were first pregnant which is how I "got in." They really are an awesome group of gals and it makes me sad that we all can't get along. They'd really be awesome contributors to this board if they came back. Some still lurk and some, like me, are "regular" posters on this board too.

I totally get that. It would be unrealistic to think that everyone is going to get along all the time with everyone. I wish it could happen, though (yes, I am a puppies and rainbows kinda person!)

I remember reading that thread the first time and I just re read it again.  I'm another person that has seen way too many children that have been shaken, both recently after and many years down the road.  I'm the one rehabbing those children, and I work with people of all ages with head injuries all. the. time.  It's no joke, people, and it does happen more than I guess people realize.  It's one of those things that I've been so exposed to that I forget that others don't realize how common it really is.  

 

I'm glad that somebody filled me in on the "joke", because I as well didn't get it until now.  I'm still not a fan, and would highly judge anybody a child with that onesie on, but I see now what the joke is.   Overall, I try not to be a judgy person, and I believe I do well with that, but I couldn't not judge that after seeing and knowing so many children who have died or suffered an altered life as a result of abuse.

I am a member of the 2011/2012 April Mama Advice FB group. I used to be fairly active there until the Biblio haters came pouring out with all that drama. Now I choose not to post or even read/lurk. I stay in the group only as an "in case" precaution if anything juicy were to happy.

I'm a puppies and rainbows person too! We just want everyone to be happy!
