2nd Trimester

Nightmares

I've been having crazy nightmares every night for about a week and quite often before that (throughout this pregnancy). Some are baby related, but most are not. Are any of you experiencing this, too?

I had some intense dreams when pregnant with my son, but nothing that was unusual for me. I usually have vivid dreams, but not nearly the amount of nightmares that I am having right now.

Re: Nightmares

  • I've always had vivid dreams, but the freak factor increases when I'm pregnant, and like you, they are not always baby related.

Do you suffer from any spectrum of anxiety? Often, your dreams are a manifestation of either conscious or subconscious anxieties, even if they don't initially make sense at first. Then again, sometimes, dreams are just dreams.

I've read that hormonal changes in women during pregnancy increases dreaming, and that in pregnancy, it is a time when women will most remember their dreams. That, and the idea that pregnant women tend to sleep more, and therefore, they have a better chance of getting a deep REM sleep with dreams.

  • Since being pregnant I've had very vivid dreams, and pretty regular nightmares.  It takes me a while after waking up to remember they aren't real.  Scary.

  • My dreams have been scary lately.  I wake up shaken about once a week.  They are very realistic, not baby related at all.  When I tell my husband he thinks the stuff I dream about is nuts...and I agree.  It has been happening for the last couple of months.
