I considered it for DD and my approach would have been, "Now that your a big, girl, almost FOUR, you are ready to handle the big kids school!" My DD is obsessed with being a big girl so that would have been the charm, had we gone that route. I agree, too see the school, and randomly say, "OH MY GOODNESS- I have a secret about X school!!! I can tell you.... if you want. Ok. Mrs. Smith has a .....goldfish (or whatever looks fun in the room)!!!" And feed her more occasionally until she is excited.

we talked it up alot before changing schools. we also told DD how she'll get to make a bunch of new friends and had a visit with the school. the new teachers were really nice and let DD stay with the kids for their snack time
