I BF LO for 2030 min. She falls asleep so I put her down for nap. About 1015 minutes later she will wake up screaming sucking her fists, which I'm pretty sure is a hunger signal. So I put her back on the breast, she nurses for 5 or so minutes then falls asleep. I stimulate her mouth with nipple to try to get her to eat more but I get NOTHING, she stays asleep. Then I try to put her back down and she starts the cycle again. Is she comfort nursing? Does this pass?
Re: Falling asleep at the breast
My LO did some cluster feeding (snacking about every 30 minutes) and comfort nursing (sucking for seconds and falling asleep). She started doing the cluster feeding less and less and by 3 months I think she stopped her snacking habit.
I fed on demand and she quickly had her own feeding schedule of eating every two hours with some cluster feeding here and there. I noticed she seemed to cluster feed more in the early evening.
She still comfort nurses to fall asleep, but she does not cluster feed anymore. Now she's too busy being mobile and being on the go!
