Insurance question

So me and DH are both on our parents' insurance and after baby comes, DH will go to his own plan with baby. Neither of us get insurance through work, so does anyone have suggestions on companies to go through? DH's brother is in the same situation and goes through Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Also, when should DH start on his own plan since we obviously don't know when baby will make an appearance?

Re: Insurance question

  • I would look into Kaiser if you have it in your area. They  have excellent programs for first time families.

  • Many plans take effect on the first of the month, so check with the company you decide to go with to see what the start date would be. Depending on where your due date falls in November, you may wanna just start 11/1 if they have a first of the month start date. Also, find out if they exclude anything for a certain period of time from your start date...

  • Call an agent and they can direct you. Not a state farm or Allstate google health insurance agent in ______ full in your state. I work for a large agency that provides quotes world wide for 30 different companies. They are licensed to give you information and will get you quotes

You can then take your quote and do more research if you wish. I believe all you need is name, bday, and smoker info? I work in a different department but refer my friends and clients daily. You should be able to get a quote same day/ next day

Good luck! PM me if you want more info!

  • Another thing to consider is to continue on your parents plan and have your child get insurance through the state

  • Is there a reason on the baby going on your husband's instead of your own?  I only ask because I am more likely to go to the Dr. than my husband is and then you would only have one deductible to meet (you and lo) instead of lo and yours on your parents. I actually didn't know you could still be on your parents insurance if you were married.  I guess I am old because when that went into effect I think I was already over 26 and married.

  • I am on my parents insurance too, while DH and DD are on their own BCBS plan. Even though we can't add baby to our parents insurance, do most plans still cover newborn for a certain time period? Otherwise, how can u add unborn baby to DHs plan? Just some things ill have to call about myself.....

  • Thank you ladies! I'll just have to make some calls I guess! And yes the law changed right before we got married last Mayyou can be on a parents until your 25 I believe. And the reason I decided to stay on my parents is because I had trouble getting insured before we realized I could stay on my mom and dad's due to preexisting condition. Also, my parents' insurance is seriously amazing and covers pretty much everything.
