Breastfeeding

Hurricane Isaac and BM

First of all, I am so glad I don't have to brave Wal-Mart today to go stock up on formula :)  I just need to make sure my boobs don't get blown away by the hurricane and we'll be good. lol

But I do have 1 question.. I have about 40 oz of BM in the fridge (the oldest is from last Tuesday).  I don't normally freeze any because it always gets rotated through by the time it would go bad.  I am off work today and tomorrow but he will need that milk Wednesday and Thursday while I am at work.   I live about 3 hours from the MS coast so chances are it won't get too bad here, but  I am just trying to be prepared.  Would it be best to go ahead and freeze that milk now (I have a deep freezer and I was thinking about freezing the oldest milk today anyway since it's 6 days old today), or just plan on transferring it to an ice chest filled with ice if the power goes out?

Anybody else been through a hurricane while BFing?

I was in college when Katrina came through (3 hours north of here) and of course didn't have a kid then so this is all kind of new to me.

Re: Hurricane Isaac and BM

  • I would freeze it.  We are in the Houston area, so I've always thought about what I would do with my milk in this situation. Of course, have formula and plenty of water for baby on hand just in case.
