Experience with bug bombing your house?

Does anyone have experience with bug bombing their house?

We had a very mild/warm winter for our area and now there are far too many bugs in our house! It is grossing me out. Anyhow, I am considering doing one of those bug bombs but I obviously have some hesitations. First, all of us including our cats would have to leave the house for a day or more. Secondly, I'm thinking I will have to cover all the furniture and then wipe down everything before we come back.

So if you have done these before:

How long did you vacate the house?

Did you cover up everything?

Did you have to wipe everything down?

Did it work, do you suggest doing it?

TIA!

What sort of bugs are they?  Flying or crawling?

Diotamaceous earth works well for ants and other crawlers; if you sprinkle it around the perimeter of your house (and inside places like under the fridge or little nooks & crannies) it will kill bugs by basically destroying their exoskeleton.  This is safe to use around pets and kids and you can buy food-grade varieties for just a few bucks more.

You can make DIY fruit-fly traps pretty easily; just look it up online.  If you're talking about mosquitos, I have no idea and oh man do I feel for you.

If you have bedbugs, roaches, or some other infestation, save yourself the headaches and call a professional exterminator.

  • I've done it before. The clean up and preparation is way too taxing for me. I would call a professional who does organic maintenance if you're worried about the chemical aspect. It is a real PITA!

  • Thanks ladies... you all confirmed the reasoning behind my hesitations.

They are creepy crawlers, like ants and spiders. I will have to check out diotamaceous earth.

  • Spiders are going to be a different story than other bugs because they dont really touch their bodies to the ground and therefor dont pick up a lot of what you would put down to kill them. Borax works great for ants and other crawly type bugs and is relatively harmless to put down in your house. For outside the house, we used the home defense 12 month spray from homedepot. It was cheap and so far (7 months) seems to still be working. We still get spiders every now and then but nothing crawly is coming in anymore. I think they may a kind that you can put indoors thats suppose to be ok for kids and pets but I still dont know if I trust that.
