Selecting a Pediatrician

How did you select your pediatrician? I have received a few recommendations from friends, but they all say to go meet with the pediatrician and interview them (like in the movies). What type of questions do you ask?

I just got on my health insurance company's website and searched for a provider. I searched for one within 10 miles of our house. I found 5 that looked good. The first one I called put me on hold right away. I hung up. The second on I called was a "push 1 for X, push 2 for X, etc" menu instead of a human being, so I hung up. The third had a responsive, knowledgeable receptionist answer the phone. I asked about the pediatrician's experience, years in private practice, weekend and evening hours, openness to holistic medicine, etc. She wasn't pushy at all and very patient. I got a good vibe and booked a "meet the pediatrician" appointment. And that's that.

My work is right next to the hospital and a huge physicians complex. LOs daycare is across the street and we are only 10 minutes from home. I wanted one in this area that has Saturday hours and only one met the criteria. Lots of coworkers have recommended them, I meet them next month at their monthly open house.

I have recommendations for 3 pediatricians - one from DH's colleague, one from my PCP, and one from my OB. I've set up "prenatal consultations" with all 3 of them. I'm 99.9% sure that on TB, they have a list of questions for pediatricians.
