? About amount of milk

I think I read somewhere that BF babies shouldn't consume more than 4 oz of BM at a time, at any age. Is this true? Or did I miss read?

Re: ? About amount of milk

  • Generally true. There are exceptions to everything, but most BF babies top out around 3-4 oz. A bf baby will be eating about the same amount at 1 month as 6 months, and then volume slowly tapers downward as baby eats more solids.

  • If your LO is taking more from a bottle than you think he should or needs, you might want to read about "paced bottle feeding" on kellymom.com

I smile everytime I see that picture of you two! :)))

  • Thanks!!

Ive thought about making the picture a little smaller but I can't bring myself to do it yet :(

Ive been freezing  in 6oz baggies because it never occurred to me that he wouldn't take all that in one feeding.  So there really is no need for me to even open the big 8 oz bottles then I guess? I guess I'll be returning those :)

    Thanks ladies

  • I ended up taking back the 8 oz bottles after I realized this as well. My DD never got more than 4.5 oz in one bottle.

  • DS takes 3 bottles at daycare - 1 4-oz bottle and 2 5-oz bottles.  About half the time, he eats all 14 oz.  Sometimes, he leaves a couple oz.  I think he might be eating a touch more than when he nurses (given I only pump 10-12 oz. at work), but I have enough of a freezer stash that I don't push the issue.
