Low Fluid...

Hi everyone, any feed back or info would be much appreciated on this. I am 35 weeks and at my appt. last Thursday found out my fluid is low at 7, baby is measuring normal but on the smaller side. Heart beat was good. Doctor just said to take it easy and schedule another appt and ultra sound for this Thursday to re check everything. She said if it drops any lower I will have to go in.  She seemed like she didn't want to freak me out and that we would discuss things more this week once I got checked again. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this. I was at a bbq over the weekend and talking to a friend who is an obgyn nurse and she made me think I should be getting checked sooner then this Thursday and that I should call tomorrow to be seen? Not sure what to think now and was looking to see how others experiences went. Thanks!

Re: Low Fluid...

  • I was at a 4 at 40 wks and was induced because of it.

I would make sure you are really, really concentrating on drinking tons of liquid (mostly water).  I think you're fine to wait until Thursday as long as your LO is moving normally.  Any markedly decreased movement and you might want to go to L&D for a quick check.

I have also heard being checked in the afternoon allows you time to increase levels so if your appt was in the AM, maybe that's why your doc wasn't as adamant about your follow up appt.

  • Did your doctor tell you to take it easy and drink more water?  If not, that's what you should be doing.  If your levels were super low - to the point the baby was in danger - they wouldn't let you go that long between u/s.

My guess is it's just lower than they'd like and they want to see if it was just a one time deal or if it's getting lower by the day.

You need to drink a ton of water, that may help.  Not saying that's the solution but it can't hurt.  With hot summer days and sweating, you're losing a ton of water so you need to drink a ton to keep up with it.

  • Thanks.  She didn't say anything about drinking extra water, but I have been anyway and making sure to take it easy.  She said that if I noticed less movement and or significant leakage to call right away.  I think that is what I am going to go by.  Trying to pay extra close attention to movement.  I think if I notice anything "off" I will call early, other then that just wait till the appt.  Thursday.  Thanks for the tips.
  • I've been having on and off problems with fluid since about 30 weeks. It's not a HUGE concern until its under 5, I've had mine down to about 7 and then the next week it was up to 10 and then the next week back down to 8, then back up to 11. (I have weekly ultrasounds due to diabetes) It has been all over but it's not a major concern until it's under 5. You never know, it may go up :) try not to worry as of now. Try to relax and drink lots of fluid.

  • My fluid was 3.5 at 37w6d after about a month of bedrest, so I was induced. 7 is still normal technically, but just drink tons of water & stay on bedrest as much as you can.
