I go back to work next week (BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...) and I'm trying to figure out the logistics of DS's bottles. I have a huge freezer stash but I also want to make sure he is getting a good amount of fresh milk so he has those antibodies. I will also be BF'ing in the morning and at night when I am home from work. I will be gone for about 10 hours a day so at least 3 feedings. Should I give him all milk from the freezer stash or two frozen one fresh bottle? I don't want to use all my fresh milk because the stuff in the freezer needs to be used and I don't want it to go to waste if I can avoid it.
What would you do?
Re: freezer stash and fresh milk rotation
How old is the oldest in your freezer? I am currently giving my LO BM from February (I have a chest freezer though).
I would start by doing 3 bottles of frozen on Mondays and Wednesdays, then your "extra" bottles should be fresh (in case he doesn't drink them, you can use them the next day as Bottle #1). Then Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, do fresh. Freeze anything extra.
I did frozen on Mondays only and it worked well. Since you have been pumping since your LO was born, I imagine you have a lot more BM to rotate through. That is why I suggest Wednesday as well. The every-other-day plan is so your "extra" fresh bottles on M & W can be the following day's first bottle.
I am weaning off the pump now and I give my LO 2 frozen bottles and 1 fresh bottle each day. I froze in 6oz increments, so 1 bag equals 2 bottles.
How does that sound? It also depends on how much you froze in each bag.
Welcome back to work. :-(
the oldest is from June so not that old. Problem is that I literally have a full chest freezer of milk... i plan to bf for 14 months - one year from his due date. So i dont mind the stash, I'll use it in his food later on too but i want to keep it fresh so I dont need to throw it out!
maybe I'll do three frozen and two fresh days
thanks!
