frequent poopy diapers?

Ty has always been pretty consistent about his BMs... 1-2 times a day normally, and generally after breakfast and afternoon snack.  Yesterday every.single. diaper change was poopy.  Loose too - not diarrhea, but still loose.

He hasn't eaten anything new or different, isn't overly fussy, no fever, etc...  Any ideas what it could be?

Oh, and poor thing has diaper rash from it too :(

Thanks ladies.  I sort of remember people saying loose BMs could be from teething, but he's never had that happen before so I forgot all about that.  Hopefully it stops soon... I'm sick of changing poopy diapers!

  • Yeah, Emma will get the same way when she's teething and I try to cut out some of the foods that seem to make her poop more - grapes/raisins, carrots, peas. It helps a little bit. Be on the look out for a little virus though, it could be from that as well. Hope the dirty dipes slow down soon!

With as much dairy this kid gets I'm surprised he's not all backed up!  However, good call on cutting out some poop inducing foods.  I hadn't even thought about that.

  • I just went through this with Z, only her super loose stools lasted just under two weeks Tongue Tied I was so confused about what the cause was, thinking maybe a stomach bug, teething or a sudden milk intolerance. She went to the pedi twice and one time I was told it could be milk, and the other that it was a stomach bug and to wait it out. I switched her to soy milk, even tried Lactaid but nothing helped.

I ended up buying a powder probiotic for toddlers at a local health store and it within two days, she was back to normal (maybe a fluke, I'll never know). So it did end up being a virus. Like your LO, Z wasn't acting sick at all, the only indication were the frequent loose stools and the horrible rash from them. It really sucks when there's something wrong but don't know what it is. I hope your LO gets better soon!!

  • Omg! Same with DS the last three days! Poor kids butt is so raw. I guess it's teething cause there nothing else wrong.
  • We've gone through weird spells like this also and I never really know what the cause is.  Last week one day Jamey had 8, count them EIGHT, poopy diapers in one day.  We were like dreading each diaper change because they were so gross and so frequent!  And yeah, because he's pooping so much his poor little butt gets red and we're constanly putting desitin on!
