Preemies

sleep training for preemies... when?

DS sleeps... sometimes it seems like all he wants to do. He is becoming more alert and awake for longer periods but he wants to sleep as soon as he eats.  I've read that I should be keeping him awake after he eats and then putting him down for naps.  I tried yesterday and not only was it hard to keep him awake but when I tried to put him down he was extremely fussy and wanted to eat again immediately. (kept awake for about an hour after his feeding).

Is it too early for him? I am not sure how it works with preemies and timing! (or any babies since I'm a FTM haha)

If it helps our routine is generally eating every 2-3 hours during the day and then last night he ate at 9 pm, 12:30 am, 3:30 am and then 7:45 am this morning.   He still eats on demand.

suggestions welcome!

  • Way too early! Our boys are 2m adjusted and we let them sleep when they want and play when they want. They've been STTN for 6w I know we are so incredibly lucky there. Sleep begets sleep IMO. We'll ST, if it's necessary, at 6m adjusted.

  • I wasn't thinking he'd STTN yet, I'm not that lucky haha but I wasn't sure if I should start keeping him awake and the routine stuff. We've started a nightly routine of bath (every other night) and reading him a book before bed but that's about it.

thanks ladies ! as always you are so helpful!

HAHA i figured but then I hear people say they started a routine and sleep stuff right away... and I didn't want to wait until he was 6 months and then ask and find out I should have started now haha
