He is 10 weeks old now but better late than never right!!
I'm so happy that this is working for us now. Hopefully he helps my milk come back in. He was wanting to nurse every 1 1/2 hours because I have a decreased supply so there wasn't much there between nursings, but at least we have a good latch, he is getting what he needs directly from me and that makes me feel sooooooo good!!! Now, about the soreness....what can I do besides use lanolin! Just air moving by my nipples makes me want to cry!
Re: Finally got my son to latch!!!
Congrats!!!
For the soreness, try either hot or cold. I made myself rice socks to heat up early on with DD, and all the sample various stores gave us came with freezer packs so I used those a lot. Just make sure to put something really soft between it and your skin. They make some packs especially for breast feeding that will heat or freeze.
Hope it helps.
Medella has these shells you can put inside your bra. It makes space around your nipple so that nothing touches it. Make sure to wear a nursing pad cause you will leak.
Good job to both of you. Oh and take some Tylenol or ibuprofen to help with the pain.
I totally forgot about the shells. I have some at home. I will dig them out again. And good call on the tylenol! Thanks!!!
I'm so happy that he was able to latch. I just hope my milk production increases. I've had trouble with it waining off. I've been eating oatmeal, drinking Mother Milk Tea, taking More Milk Plus supplement by motherlove, and drinking tons of water. I'm still only able to pump off about 8-10oz a day, but hey I'll take what I can get. Heaven willing it will go up now that he is actually nursing.
Pumping and supplementing is what I have been doing too, and will continue to do when I need to, but during the weekends and in the evenings I will nurse him. And to be honest, I just did the same thing that we tried to did in the hospital. I waited until I was good and full (weekend morning) so I knew he would get something with any sort of effort at all. I had to sort of push on one cheek to get him to open his mouth nice and wide, then as soon as I saw his mouth was open good I quickly moved in to see if he would take it. The first few times there was nothing, but as soon as he got it, he got it!! I had to have the room silent tho so that I could hear if he was swallowing. I didn't pay much attention to the clicking of his tongue that the LC didn't like since he seemed to be nursing just fine.
Good luck to you!
