My name is laura. I'm a ftm...my son was born at 36w1d due to pree, gd, slow growth and low fluid.....i love being a mom and cant wait to do it again...when im looking at my sons milestone development..should I be looking at his actual age or adjusted age....i feel like hes behind...i see all these 5month olds laughing, rolling over, even some crawling and my son wont even roll or do tummy time. Doc isnt worried but I am.
Re: intro and Milestones question
You should go by adjusted... and even with full-term babies without the slow growth issue your baby dealt with, there is a huge range in when babies meet various milestones. You're hearing about all these babies hitting milestones because those are the mommies who are proud and talking about it... you probably won't hear from the other half whose babies are a little behind (which, in reality, isn't even "behind" since there's such a range within what's considered perfectly normal development).
I've noticed that just when I'm getting discouraged about a milestone that my baby seems to show no interest in hitting, all of sudden one day he just does it! I think that's how it goes a lot of the time.
Keep trying with the tummy time... that will go a long way toward strengthening his core and getting him ready to roll and crawl. I bought something called the Lamaze Spin and Explore the Sea which has a sort of "surf board" type thing and lot of interesting things to make them want to be on their tummies. A few days after I bought that, my baby stopped screaming in protest during tummy time, and it wasn't long after that that he rolled over for the first time.
