Pain in chest during c-section?

Did anyone else get a pain in your chest during your c-section? I am having a RCS and have been replaying my first operation in my head and remembered this feeling and it sort of freaked me out. I can't remember if the pain occurred before or after DS was delivered. The anesthesiologist assured me that it was normal and put something in my IV that made the pain go away instantly. Aside from that, my first c-section and recovery went beautifully. Anyone else experience this? If so, do you have any idea what caused the pain? I'm planning on asking my OB, but my next appointment isn't for two more weeks.

Re: Pain in chest during c-section?

  • yes.  It is usually referred pain and remember they are opening up your abdomen so lots of air goes in.  It usually happens after the first cut.

My problem was that I got pain into my head and neck...so I scared the dr.'s and they ended up putting me under.  but i had severe head a neck pain.

the chest pain is usually normal.  Let anesthesia know it happened last time so that they are prepared for it.  It may not happen this time, but it may. There is no reason to have that feeling so they will just give you the meds again.

Good Luck with everything!  talk to your dr. about it :)

  • I had a terrible sharp pain after my son was born and they were stitching me up. Dr said it was nerves that travel to my chest. Scary nonetheless.

  • I was told I would have lots of pressure in my chest area but it felt more like I'd been stepped on by an elephant with my first c-section. My second c-section was actually no where near as bad but it was still very uncomfortable.
