Advice for bringing milk on an outing

We have planned a trip for DS' birthday to Disney in February and the LO will only be around 4-5 months old (depending on when he makes his arrival). I would like to bring at least two bottles into the park as a 'just in case' my parents have to feed the baby if I'm waiting in line with DS or something. What's the best way to bring the milk with you without it either being too cold or spoiling? It won't be hot or anything weather wise but this will be new to me since DS was FF.

Re: Advice for bringing milk on an outing

  • The milk should be fine in a cooler with ice pack.  I just use my pump cooler / ice pack or our diaper bag has a cooler compartment that will keep the milk cool with an ice pack.

Milk can also stay good room temp right after you pump for 4-8 hrs (I am more comfortable with the four hours...) so if you pump during the day, it will be good for up to 4-8 hrs.

Kellymom.com is a good resource, this is the chart I use:

  • Put it in a little cooler with ice packs, and it will stay cold just fine!  Then to reheat it, just run the bottle under hot water until it warms up.  Or if you can't find hot running water, I liked to fill up a coffee cup halfway with boiling water (any waittress can get this for you) and set the bottle in it for a few minutes, that would warm it up enough for DD to drink it.

I don't have advice about the BM, but I do want to let you know that Disney has a baby swap policy that allows parents to alternate holding a baby while one rides with an older child and then they switch and the other parent rides with the older child (so the older kid gets to ride twice).  Here is a link with more info.
