Preemies

Introduction

I wanted to introduce myself since I unexpectedly now have a preemie.
Water broke yesterday morning 8:45am at 33 weeks 6 days. Admitted at 9:20am; contractions started at 1:20pm. We tried meds to hold them off but it never lasted long. Contractions intensified quickly. Emery Claire stayed breech and was born via RCS at 8:33pm. Beautiful and healthy: 4lb 7oz, 17 inches. Her cries were the most beautiful sound! APGAR scores of 9! Breathing on her own. She's in the NICU for monitoring but doing great. Still so surreal that she's here already. I got to the post partum room at midnight after a NICU visit and started pumping right away. Followed up with hand expression, which was more successful. Right now I'm just trying to stimulate production, but getting some colostrum to give to Emery makes me feel so good.
I'm happy to have such positive news, but know we have a long road ahead of us still.
Any advice or suggestions of what to expect over the next few days/weeks/months? TIA

Congratulations on your little girl! My nephew was born at 34 weeks and he had an 11 day stay in the NICU, mostly due to him learning to feed.  GL and I hope that your stay is short and uneventful!

  • Congratulations on the birth of you little girl! It sounds like your doing great, in regards to pumping. I actually ask your DD nurse in the NICU if you can pump bedside. That seems to help me and I got to bond w/DD more. Also when you finally are released I would try and sleep about 5 hours at night (some sound advice I got from the NICU Manager). Praying that your LO is home with you soon. Please keep us posted.
