Switching to cloth diapers on a toddler

I also posted this on the Cloth Diaper board.

We are having a hard time potty training our 2 year old and the cost of disposables are really hurting us. I am seriously considering switching to cloth mainly to save us money. I haven't done a lot of research of them and do not know where to start. Will it be a good idea to make the switch this late? What are some good brands? What do I need to buy?

One thing though, our dryer is not working right now so would I be able to just hang them up to dry without ruining them?

If it goes well, I will definitely switch my little man to cloth once we go through all the disposables.

Sorry for sounding like such a newb. Like I said, I have never considered cloth until now Smile

Thanks!

Re: Switching to cloth diapers on a toddler

  • If you're in the middle of potty training, you're not going to save money by switching to cloth. The only way you could make that worth your money is if you have another (or are planning another) that you would use the cloth exclusively (or a majority of the time) for. One option would be to find some pairs of training pants and use those as you potty train. They're like a thick cloth underwear.

  • Actually if you were to switch to cloth training diapers you might be able to save some money especially depending on the system you went with. GroVia, Flips, and Kissaluvs (all popular cloth diaper brands) make trainers. Flips and GroVia offer a couple types of inserts to adjust how wet LO feels and how much they absorb. I don't know much about the Kissas but they look like they are a little less expensive.
