Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Weaning from bottle

My lo is 11 months old and I breastfeed him but on the 2-3 days a week I work he gets bottles. So I understand it's best to wean from bottles at 1 but how does that happen? He gets a bottle before bed as part of his bath time routine when I am at work. I don't mind nursing him to relax before bed on the days that I am there but would stopping bottles but continuing to nurse confuse him? Do you go cold turkey with no bottles at bed time? Also, how do you wean from the bottle during the day? He takes a sippy cup but usually spits alot out and plays with it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Weaning from bottle

  • Just keep giving him the sippy cup, he'll learn eventually.  we have the best luck w/ straw sippy's here, DD is pretty good now at drinking water out of hers.  with my son, I still nursed him past one and quit the bottles so that is fine, it won't confuse him.  If you can't get rid of the bottle right at one, it's not the end of the world.  some kids hang on to it longer than others but all eventually wean at some point. :)
