Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Is my almost 1 y/o the only one still waking to eat???

DD is eating really well during the day w/solids.  She's down to 2-3 bottles during the day.  We started mixing with WCM.  Has dinner at about 6pm, then a 6-8oz bottle @bedtime at 7pm.   And she is still waking at about 3-4am for a bottle!!

My DS stopped waking in the night at about 4 or 5 months so this is all new to me.

We will be 100% on WCM very soon.  So when she wakes at 3am do I give her a bottle of milk???

Or do I need to try some sort of CIO?

Any other LO's almost 1 y/o and still waking for a bottle in the middle of the night?

  • My LO is breastfed, but he is also still waking to eat in the night...usually 2-3 times.  I have thought about CIO too...but I hate it!  I keep hoping he'll grow out of it :)  I'm curious to see what others have to say.

  • My little guy wakes up to eat once in the night.  Falls right back to sleep after his bottle.  He's dropped a lot of bottles due to solid food too.

  • DD is BF and still wakes 1-2 times to eat. She gets three meals of solids and 4oz bottles at daycare.

  • DD wakes most nights to nurse once around 4am.  THe last two nights she has STTN and we're going to implement a no feeding before 6am.  She had sporadically slept through here and there over the last month and I'm pretty confident she doesn't need to eat.  Last night I heard rumblings around 3:45 and just let her be and she went back to sleep -- if she is outright crying DH goes in and if that doesn't work then I do.  Nursing is last resort at this point.

I will says we have taken her lead and she has gradually slept longer and dropped other night feedings (we did CIO at bedtime only around 4 months) as I haven't wanted to force it.

  • My DD (FF) used to wake 3-4x a night to eat but it was out of habit rather then being hungry. I cut out 3 night wakings/feedings by dream feeding her.. I put her down for the night between 7-8 usually closer to 7, Dream feed her around 10-10:30 just before I go to sleep and have a scheduled feeding at 4:40am. I kept times logs of her wakings for a few nights and then set my alarm to feed her 30 before her usual wake times. At first I was dream feeding her at 9pm,1am and 3:30am. I adde rice cereal to her 9pm bottle. I have been slowly pushing the times further and further apart buy 15mins. every 3-4days. The idea is to get them out of the habit of waking on their own. Now if she wakes on in between scheduled feedings I know she either teething of now feeling well.. She waked for the day around 6:30-7am so hopefully in a couple of weeks I will have weaned her from the 4:40 feeding :D

Hope this helps a little... GL

  • Nope, we're still breastfeeding once in the middle of the night/early morning.  She eats plenty of solids during the day, but seems to still need one feed in the middle.  She's asleep around 8pm, and up usually between 3-4, but sometimes it can be as early as 2 or as late as 5!  Then she goes back to bed, and is usually there until somewhere between 6:30 and 8.

  • We are still up 1-3 times per night.  I keep hoping she will outgrow it.
  • Most of the time my LO will sleep from 8:30-9pm to 5-6am before waking but we still have some nights where he'll wake up around 4am starved.  Its just part of the baby package in my mind, that's how i hope to survive, lol

  • DD slept through the night for 2 months but the past month or so she has been waking anywhere from 1-3 times to nurse.  She has three solid meals a day- one snack time. and nurses 3-4 times a day as well. I'm hoping it's just a long teething phase because i'm a zombie.  Our deal now is that instead of eating and going back to sleep she stands in her crib then falls while falling asleep.. cries and stands back up to only fall asleep again.. over and over. even if i put her out cold before i put her down lol.

  • My DD has never slept through the night, but we are also totally against CIO. We do attachment parenting and I believe total child-centered parenting. As a result, at 10 months she wakes up twice a night and takes an 8 oz bottle to go back to sleep at both times. She is starving and so ready for the bottle. I will continue though until she no longer wants it.
