Tips for toothpaste aversion?

I am not sure if this is normal at all b/c I see everyone say they have food aversions, but I am having issues with toothpaste! It makes me gag (if not throw up) every morning and it is soooo annoying since I need to brush my teeth. I switched to a different toothpaste and have the same issue! Anyone have the same issue or any tips?

  • Try children's toothpaste. It may be the mint flavor that you're having a problem with.

  • This happened to me. It was more the foamy-ness then the flavor for me-switching brands helped.

  • How about a cinnamon or orange flavor?

I gagged this morning while brushing too...not such a fun way to start the day.

  • Thanks guys! Your right- when I switched brands, they were both mint. I will definately try a different flavor or childrens paste. I have baking soda as well so I can try that if the different flavor doesnt work.

  • I thought I was the only one! It's happened the last couple of days and I really want to brsuh my teeth without gagging. I'm going to have to try the other flavors.
  • Yep it's totally normal.  I read more about that during my first pg than food aversions.  I luckily never vomited from it, but it did make me gag (I hated the thought of throwing up after I'd just finished brushing just to start the cycle over again).  I never thought of the suggestions from the PP's, I'll have to keep those in mind if the same thing happens this time around.
  • I bought children's toothpaste, and I bought a child's toothbrush because of it's smaller size.  I'm still getting sick most mornings after brushing, but a few mornings I've managed to not be sick with this method.  I think I'm just one of those that's gonna be sick since it hits at random times of the day too.
