Someone mentioned the idea of sneaking in a little bottle of champagne to the delivery room.. Lol.. when do you ladies plan on having your first drink, and what drink will it be?
I would LOVE to sneak at least a small glass into the Hospital but I may wait a little while. I always felt weird drinking, knowing that I have to BF LO. I know all the "rules" but I still feel a bit off about doing it.
I will definitely have a glass or two of wine at Thanksgiving though AND Christmas
It'll be after I've started pumping regularly enough to have a supply that I can pump and dump after drinking so... probably not until New Years at the earliest?
Please pardon any typos -- I'm typically bumping from my phone V|V TSP V|V

Probably not until I start pumping, and even then, I may abstain for a long time. I'm erring on the side of extreme caution, and don't want to risk exposing our LO to any of my previous alcoholic tendencies.
That said, there's an unopened 10 year old bottle of port on my desk, right now, as I type this. The figs are ripe on our tree outside... it makes my soul ache to not have a glass with a few pieces of our amazing fruit.
I plan on BF too.. so that's why I want to make that one drink super special haha. I think I understand the rules.. one drink right after you breastfeed? I'm not going to do it a lot, but defiantly looking forward to one nice big glass of wine.
So it won't look bad if I have a bartender on standby in the delivery room? j/k I plan on BF too but I may have a celebratory drink...just not sure when. All this talk of margaritas on another board has me wanting one!!
If you count the occassional drink I've been allowing myself while pregnant... then my half glass of wine tomorrow night.
After the baby is born, it will be Thanksgiving. That could be two weeks after the baby is born or the next day. I will NOT miss my cut of the Thanksgiving wine (a family friend makes his own red wine with a cranberry infusion that is heaven on earth, and Turkey Day is my favorite holiday).

I joke all the time about one of my friends sneaking a margarita into the hospital via a speedway cup. Really though, it will probably be a couple weeks after the birth. Maybe a week depending on how far away from Thanksgiving she comes. I guess I will play it by ear and not really have some count down to alcohol intake.

Mmmm. I love red wine in the winter, so I'll probably sneak in a glass in between BFing. DD got into a pattern where she'd cluster feed from 7-9pm and then I'd have a few hours off. Hopefully this baby will do the same.
Just as I have during my pregnancy, I'll probably have a glass of wine here and there with dinner. I'm not going to stress about a glass here and there.
Eh, I'm not a big drinker. What I DO want is a 64 oz diet coke big gulp. I haven't Google to see if that's allowed because I'm afraid it'll be a no go.
I allow myself about 200 mg of caffeine a day and my doc is on the same page with me about it. If you are worried about caffeine intake a 64 oz. diet coke is ok
I'm not breast feeding either so I'll be having wine shortly after coming home from the hospital and during the holiday season! I can't wait to have some eggnog and spiked apple cider. YUM.

IUI with donor sperm - BFP on 2nd attempt!
My husband and I are planning on sharing a beer sometime after LO is born at the hospital. Consider it our champange toast..... I am breast feeding, but I am not concerned about a small amount.
Me too! My girlfriends and I get together the first weekend one of us gets home from the hospital after delivery for wine so my first drink will be 4 days after delivery!
I love that tradition and can totally see my friends adopting a similar one. I'm the first of our friends to have a baby so perhaps we will get this started.

I'm not a big drinker, unless away on a hot, tropical, all-inclusive vacay. I don't drink much in the winter as a rule, being due in Nov, I probably won't have my first drink until Christmas at the earliest, and even then it will only be one or two tops. I guess, I'll have to pump and dump too. I might also have a couple at new years, but I also may be too damn exhausted to give a crap, so who knows.

I just don't understand how you would lift it to drink it!

probably not until she starts sleeping longer stretches at night. i'm hopeful that by christmas or new years i can enjoy a small glass after i get both kids in bed.

I have not been able to drink wine this pregnancy, even though I have tried to have a half glass on a few occassions. It gives me horrible heartburn from the very first sip. I am really hoping this goes away after I deliver. I am a big wine drinker; I used to have a glass of wine with dinner pretty frequently. Sigh.

This makes me sad for you. Not that I am trying to specifically encourage drinking while pregnant, but is it both white and red? I can't do red anymore, but sweet whites like Reisling that are very cold (colder than normal serving temp) have been okay for me. I hope it goes away after the baby comes!

I've tried reds and whites with the same result. Champagne doesn't work, either. I have had a blueberry beer that always goes on tap at our favorite restaurant in the fall, but it's not the same. I'm looking forward to having a fall pumpkin ale in another month or two.
I'm thinking a dirty martini at Christmas... I have one night out with the fam and I'll pump and dump & looking fwd to it. I'll have sips of wine and beer here and there but not really in the mood
