Preemies

Cross your fingers for us, please, ladies!

So it has been over 48 hours since Skye's last NG tube feeding. Today she has been feeding ad lib, and passed her car seat test. As long as all goes well overnight she might come home tomorrow (assuming she eats well, does not have any bad events, and has acceptable weight gain in the morning). If not, they anticipate keeping her another day or two. Please cross your fingers for us, that we might have a homecoming tomorrow! After two months in NICU, I'm ready for her to come home. :)

That's what I'm afraid of! She hasn't been having any problems lately but I'm really hoping there's no bad luck "go figure" moment with a random desat or something.

  • Sending positive thoughts your way! The day I thought ok this could be it. I wouldn't say the h word and refused to bring her take home outfit with us, I thought it would jinx it! When drs did rounds and DC her the first thing I said was you won't change your mind if I run home and get her outfit right! We only live about 15 mins from our children's. Hoping for an exciting update in the near future! Good luck!

  • Well, we narrowly missed it. :( The doctor was prepping her for dismissal this morning, but she brady'd during a feed. Which, go figure, is something she has not done in quite some time. Doc told us that in all likelihood she would have still been okay if she went home today (given that it was brought on by a feed, which sometimes happens even in full-term babies), but that she was going to hold off until Monday so that there can be no doubt. She said that normally if there is a brady event, they like to hold the babies an extra 5-7 days, but given the circumstances we can most likely plan for a Monday discharge. We shall see... In better news though, she is taking to her ad lib on demand feeding schedule like a champ, and put on a good 2.5 ounces (since yesterday's weigh-in, I believe) which is more significant than what she usually goes up by. They took out her NG tube yesterday afternoon for her car seat test and haven't bothered to put it back in since she hasn't needed it for 3 days (yay!). So, while we are still hopeful that she is coming home very shortly, today was not the day. And while it wasn't exactly as perfect as we'd hoped, I still consider it reasonably good news, and all those finger-crosses remain perfectly valid until Monday! Thank you so much, ladies. Every one of you makes this journey easier. Smile
